James Woods BA, MBA, GAICD

James Woods is a transformation consultant with diverse management and leadership experience in the media, energy and transport industries. Based in our Brisbane office, James’ career spans corporate strategy and business development, marketing and branding, corporate communication and change management.

After a decade as a journalist with News Limited, including two years as a political correspondent in the Canberra Press Gallery, James became a Media and Policy Adviser to Federal Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Minister The Hon. Senator Dr John Herron.  

James moved into the energy sector working in senior communications and stakeholder management, retail marketing and sustainability leadership roles for Ergon Energy, Energex and Origin Energy. This included leading Energex’s “earth’schoice” to record growth as one of Australia’s largest Green Power businesses.

Before joining Keogh, James worked with QR Limited as a business strategist to evolve its commercial model towards Transit Oriented Development with a focus on property development, retailing and asset commercialisation. During this time, as chair of a Cooperative Research Centre for Rail Innovation national project, James worked with Australia’s rail industry to develop new business models, customer services and alternative revenue streams.

James is actively involved in his community. He is a Foundation Member and Advisory Panel Member for environmental sustainability and community resilience organisation Green Cross Australia. As as a Board Member of Backbone Youth Arts, James believes in fostering and promoting young people’s creative and leadership talent as he believes that empathy, expression and storytelling are as much critical factors in contemporary artistic performance and as they are vital characteristics for tomorrow’s business and community leaders. James supports Australian returned-service men and women by driving “Diggers” in a restored 1942 Jeep in Brisbane’s annual ANZAC Day Parade.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration from the University of Queensland, is a Prince 2 Practitioner in Project Management and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
